Over the years, I have collected a few nice things. I live
very simply. That is me.
One
thing about having been an amateur
astronomer since I was 12 years old:
Telescopes are about quality glass,
crystal, and refraction. My admiration of
highly refractive glass takes me not
only into telescope optics but also
I have a fascination for fine glass
and crystal of other kinds. You can
see this in some of my personal collections,
below.

Above, the crystal and magogany screen is rather unusual ... found in an old barn on Cape Cod, used to be the hanging dining room doors in one of the old mansions there.

Collection of First Printings, many signed, including one of the 14 copies of my friend and first Chemistry teacher, Linus Pauling's, Nobel Peace Prize Speech ... his second Nobel Prize.
Pauling and his friends were outstanding advocates of responsible science and living that is sensitive to the environment. Although wildly eccentric and possessing an amazing wit, he was widely reviled for taking positions against public policies that he thought were not only irresponsible but strikingly dangerous to the future of Mankind. He was a true "Mensch" and I often find myself missing him.

I am very fond of highly refractive glass such as those used in telescopes and fine crystal. This collection has some Waterford, but mostly it is Swarovski, the most brilliant fine crystal in the world. It's really pretty at night, especially with the chandelier across the room.
